Meryl + Extension + Adele

I love their improvement, but I wish they told more of a story with this music...

  1. I had much the same reaction. On first viewing, I was all "Wow, gorgeous skating!" but on the next view it was "The moves don't have much connection with the music..." I hope they tweak the choreo a little, because with a song as lovely as this, the program could be epic.

  2. They usually skate fast, but I wish they'd skate slower and softer for this piece. They should connect to the music more.

  3. yeah, it looked like they just strung parts of their old program and some pretty choreography together. This amazing some deserves better and Marlie have the skill to do it. Lets just see the effort made.

  4. With this music comes a lot of possibilities, a story of a break-up would be great, i wished they changed this generic choreography too

  5. That program really doesn't do anything for me.

On the other hand, the winning Hubbell/Donohue FD from Nebelhorn is up on youtube now and I rather like it - they don't have the technical polish of Marlie or Voir but its a nice program and they look good together in a sort of hot schoolteacher and cute student sort of way (and I'm glad she's not skating that program with her brother).

  6. Marlie's exibs always look like strung together bits of old programs, but this was better than most.

Over the next few years I see the DSC program taking over the dominant role in ice dance-mainly because of superior Camerlengo/Krylova/Scali choreo & coaching.

  7. I think they create a melancholy mood that matches the song quite well. They've never had a theatrical narrative in their programs, but I see where the criticism is coming from. Anyway, it's just an exhibition, so I can't blame skaters for not devoting substantial time and creativity to it.

  8. I love the split rotational lift at the end! I think the movement creates more of a mood than tells a story. Like most of their exhibitions, I think this one will improve with each performance.

  9. I'm not liking the outfits or the song choice. I like Adele but something about this song makes me think it would make for a better solo program than something for ice dance. I wish they'd skate to a genre/artist that not everyone and their mother wants to skate to (The Kerrs and Jeremy Abbott and who knows how many more). This will save the audience from having to listen to the same music over and over again.
