Russian Dolls

Anna Dementyeva won yet another AA title at the Russian Cup and even attempted a DTY, yet all eyes were on Viktoria Komova's return to competition.  Komova, returning from ankle surgery, managed 15s on bars and beam and made it through two days of competition.  Gymnastics fans, judges, competitors and officials are praying that she will recover in time to kick the shit out of the Americans at the upcoming World Championships.

Ksenia Afanasyeva won prelims, yet continued her inconsistent ways by just missing a medal in finals behind two watered down routines by Komova.

  1. Komova a little shaky, and unsure but she seems on track for Worlds. Watered down but certainly not craptacular like a lot U.S. gymnasts put out there this week at Nationals (or the Visa Championships if you prefer).

Komova's FX music is rather jarring imo. First channeling "Swan Lake" then morphs into a techno pop number. A ways to go but we'll see how it goes by Worlds.

  2. I posted before I noticed Komova's UB set-SPECTACULAR imo!! Just breathtaking!

Makes me depressed to think how the U.S. looked this week on that event.

  3. On the note of Russian dolls, WOGA's next "one" Irina Alexeeva continues to clean up every competition she enters and is always the youngest one at her level. Valeri is starting to take over her training. Take/post vids of her if you're in Texas this year, peeps! :)

  5. I hope the American girls kick some commie ass. Wieber can just crunch those girls with her abs. Heck, girl's got biceps too.

P.s. And don't give me any crap about Musty being hurt. Jordyn already showed who was the better athlete.

  6. I thought this was going to be a review of the trashy Lifetime reality show!

  7. Honestly, I don't like Komova's FX. It looks like a routine for a Russian junior, not someone who has a great shot of being a World or Olympic Champion. I hope she will get something more elegant in the future. Her bars are really beautiful though (even if I dislike the composition of her routine).

  8. Russia doesn't need to go all-out this year and risk further injuries to crucial team finals players. Don't rush Komova and don't put the pressure on her to carry the team! Let the US do their thing where they win the Worlds before the Olympics and then get broken right before the Games.

  9. LOL someone actually buys into the NBC and SCAM Cup garbage that Wieber really "beat" Mustafina. Oh lord.

    Anyway.

I say go ahead and let the US get their "win" in over Russia at this years worlds. I'd much rather seem them win in Tokyo than in London, and history tells us that team USA fails miserably when entering the Olympics as the reigning world champions and favorites.

So, go USA. Ew, I can't believe I just said that.
