This and That

Japanese Training Clip

The overall lack of videos from Four Continents is hurting my soul.  Luckily, I stayed up until 5 AM to catch the short dance.

Ask The Bruins

Evan Lysacek had a live chat with USA Today.  Here is one quote that made me groan and spurred Gaysian Attorney to exclaim, "I hope Dick Button pees on his face."  We get that Scott pays his bills, but the statement is just wrong on so many levels.

I have always admired Scott Hamilton. His expertise and enthusiasm about skating is unparalleled and he has given so much to the sport. He is now so iconic in the World of broadcast as THE skating commentator. I would really enjoy working with him someday.

Anysia Unick looks like one Canadian the NCAA recruiters will have their eye on.

  1. On the bright side—a Lysacek comeback may help Mirai get herself together.

  2. Stay in retirement, Evan. Please. For all of us, but especially for the future of US men's figure skating.

  3. I'd rather listen to Johnny do commentary than Evan anyday.

  4. On the bright side, if Evan were to commentate, his monotone would be easier to ignore...?

  5. What's with all the Evan-hating on here? :(

  6. Evan commentate? Listening to him talk is like hearing nails on a chalkboard. Another reason for people to NOT watch figure skating!

  7. Victoria Moors needs something, more oomph (for lack of a better word) I think she's getting tired after her second pass and she just doesn't present the choreography with the most effort. She really needs more extension, it's obvious on her leaps and attitude turn. That said, she's very talented and it's good see Canada's got some new hot shots since MiniMack and Pengpeng's early promies hasn't really delievered much results.

  8. Yeah, Evan's speaking voice is really annoying - what is weird is that he has a kind of hoity-toity, stick up his ass prep school sound but I have never heard of him being all that well-educated or from a rich family.

Agree with another poster - Johnny is far more pleasant to listen to than Evan.

  9. Really? I saw Evan speak when I went to Worlds in 2009 and I thought he was a great speaker...Guess it's just a difference of opinions haha. I'd always thought he seemed pretty arrogant when I watched him on TV but in person he seemed really genuine and was very eloquent.

  10. I fall asleep when Evan speaks for too long. He's a bad joker, too.

  11. I like Victoria Moors! Hope she's age eligible for Srs soon

  12. well starting in the 80's really there was a movement to start doing quads in free skates in mens and it got to the point where from 1997 to 2007 all world champions did quads and the Olympic champion from 1998 to 2010 could do a quad and did one or more in their Olympic free skate and or short program. Kulik only did one in his free skate. Then you have Lysacek come along and try to make a virtue of being quadless and ruin the technical progression of the sport. Men may have never tried quads again. The ISU did change a lot of its rules and values of jumps all in favor of doing quads really. Lysacek is just a horrible champion and shouldn't be champion because skating had really moved passed quadless skates or so people thought. Really buttles and lysaceks wins at worlds were never thought to indicate that the 2010 olympic champion would be quadless. Buttle retired because he felt he would need a quad in Vancouver and Lysacek was saying all throughout january 2010 along with carroll that they would do a quad. But they were just strategy people and were like it doesn't pay to risk a quad the key is GOE on triples! And of course if the rules hadn't of been changed probably no one would be doing quads now. It was not something winners did anymore-not even Olympic winners. So that is a big reason why Lysacek and carroll- can't leave out carroll are so horrible for mens skating in the world. quads triple axels steps spins etc all should be done by the Olympic mens champion now. It was done the three olympics previous and there should have been no regression and that is what lysacek symbolises. Horrible regression.

  13. Evgeni, is that you?

  14. No, no, that's his alter-ego Victor. ;)

Seriously, dude. STFU about Lysacek and his lack of a quad. Everybody knows he hasn't got one and it isn't the fall of civilization. You don't have to be the best skater ever in order to win an OGM. You just have to be better than your competition on the two nights of the competition; under IJS scoring, Evan was that in Vancouver.

Also, bite your f***ing tongue regarding Frank Carroll. Unless you are some previously unknown protege of Maribel Vincent Owen, your argument is invalid.

  15. Duh it is not fall of civilization but it could have been the fall of jump progression in mens skating as many would have stopped doing quads and trying to reach their limits as athletes. That would have meant a total and unfortunate regression in skating. Lysacek did not outskate Plushenko! He didn't outskate takahashi! He didn't even TRY to reach their level.

  16. Lysacek didn't do the quad because he didn't want to re-injure his foot. He is capable of it and was able to win even without it which I think is even more impressive. Figure skating is not just about being able to do one jump. Would I have preferred to see him win with a quad? Yes because progression of technical elements is great, but just because he didn't do a quad doesn't mean he doesn't deserve to win. If the ISU really wants to see only men who do a quad win then they need to revise their scoring system.

  18. evan's supercheated triple axel i thought was even more offensive than the lack of quad. why that wasn't considered a double in the short and long is beyond me.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Evan's triple axel is pretty bad. When the 3 axel is done well it's such a beauty. That's never the case with Evan. Well this is a trend. The last 3 OGs from the U.S. have some of the worst jumping tech.

  20. Lysacek tried a quad a few weeks before the Olympics at US nationals. His foot story is just a cover and lie. He got like zero points for his underrotated quad with fall and nationals and his all triple program was a stratey-not some health mandated thing! Please Give me a break with that dumb story already. he was a capital c code whore and his programs were built around code whoring and doing an all triple program with the goe turned out to be smarter than even trying a quad or being successful in landing a quad.
