This and That

Absolute Skating interviewed Brian Joubert.

Rumor has it the McKenzie Wofford has left WOGA and moved back to Level 10.  This is probably a wise decision, as McKenzie was unlikely to be ready to make a run at the Olympic Team.

Gym Dog practice report.  Shayla vaulted for the first time in a while  Kat Ding is back training vault and Calamity Gina is doing floor again.  The team has reportedly had good energy.  They will likely put on a good showing this weekend and receive an added boost in their score by having to Georgia level 10 judges on the panel.

Tom and Lorenzo reviewed the fashion from the US Figure Skating Championships.  They covered the ladies and the gays.

Shawn Johnson recently had knee surgery to scope out her knee.  The surgery was before her recent trip to camp.  Chow is saying she may only be doing a few events this summer, but this is Shawn: one of those events is going to be beam.  She isn't a bar specialist.  If she is going to do a few events, it could quickly lead to more.  They don't know how hard to push her knee.  Some of the dance elements and twisting passes are more stressful to her knee than doing double pikes and double layouts.  They aren't sure what the time frame will be for her preparation, but slow and steady could very well win the race.  If they push too hard too soon, Shawn risks a Zmeskal situation where she'll have chronic knee injuries throughout her comeback.

  1. He posted one line about her and actually wrote way more about Shawn. You're a bit nuts.

  2. What?!? I like how we're just casually hearing about this Shawn knee surgery. People were making it sound like she was doing gymnastics at camp, so either that was a really minor surgery, or Shawn really wasn't doing much gymnastics at camp after all.

  3. A knee scope tends to be a more minor surgery. Shawn did some gymnastics at camp, but mostly conditioning. It is why Chow isn't sure how hard they'll be able to push her...they need to get the knee in order and then move ahead.

  4. I had a knee scope and was back at practice within 3 weeks. Had to do soft landings and take it easy, but a scope is easy-peasy. :-)

  5. Why did you need a knee scope? Why does anyone need a knee scope.

  6. I'm not one to make off base comments but Tessa Virtue's nose looks really different from the way it's looked in the past.

I feel like she's had a nose job- it's looked different since the start of the 2009-2010 Olympic season.

  7. They usually scope a knee to remove scar tissue. I had a small surgery post acl to remove the pin cause it was causing me lots of pain (actually it was a long, creepy looking staple).
Skinner is out of control. Her gymnastics is so off balanced. An Amanar, double-double and standing back full on beam, yet she makes a 7 year olds first attempt at a switch leap look amazing. She's also sooo spastic! On floor especially, slow down girl!

  8. what's the deal with the first comment? this post didnt even say anything posative about Nastia, it just said what she was doing.

  9. Well, as a dancer w many hamstring pulls and tears, is a hamstring scope a reality? I could use a quick fire way to get rid of alot of the scar tissue...

  10. Yeah, Tessa's nose and how different it is now is somehow even more distracting in that video than usual...just very odd.

  11. Mykayla's gymnastics is just awful, she can get enough jump to fling a double-double around but she can't do a switch-leap or a switch side.

  12. Mykayla needs to stretch instead of learning Amanars, honestly.

  13. Aunt Joyce has sold out. Nastia tweeted him so now he loves everything about her. Talk about stealing info from another blog. At least give credit for the Wofford info. We all know where it came from. Even GGMB didn't steal the info as their own.

  14. its not like he's saying "hey everybody check it out, nastia is gonna be on hellcats so be sure to watch, its gonna be awesome." all he did was mention her. its a blog that covers the gymnastics world, and she's part of that world. how does simply telling people what she's up to constitute selling out?

  15. Some people really need to get over their Nastia-hate. It's creepy. I'm just sayin'...

  16. Am I the only one thrown by Wofford leaving the Elite scene and WOGA? She was doing really well for herself - she made the jr. national team and had two of the most difficult bar and beam routines (of course, she needed to hit those consistently). Plus she just did well at the Bumbo Cup a couple of months ago. Thought she was one of the most promising WOGA juniors. I think it's ashame - she has potential. I hope this is just a rumor. :(

  17. Aunt Joyce steals all her info from message boards and blogs. This is well known.

  18. Nastia stalkers like Margaret need to get over Nastia. Now that is what is creepy. Fat gay men following around teenagers.

  19. how is margaret a stalker? I love how the nastia haters call anyone who even dares to mention nastia a stalker or obsessed. i mentioned her twice in one comment, I must be double obsessed. never mind the fact that me and margaret and aunt joyce didnt actually say anything about her good or bad.

  20. Nastia haters are the ones who need to get over Nastia. She's not going away. Even if she retires tomarrow, she'll still have her own line of leotards, still have a competition named after her, and still do shows like "Around the Gym." She's always going to be a part of the gymnastics world. People who hater her need to grow up and stop whinning everytime she gets mentioned on a gymnastics blog.

  21. How can Shawn "only" do a few events? There are only 4! She could do a couple of events and not do all four. But a few would be pretty much all four.
