Things of Note (This and That Bonus)

Evan Lysacek and Roz Sumners are promoting the Smucker's Stars on Ice 25th Anniversary Tour via Live Chat on the Seattle Times website Thursday Feb. 10 (Today) from 12:30 PM-1:30 PM  PST.  Let's try to get some interesting questions in and not just all of the fluff.

Bonus points to anyone who asks Roz about competing against Katarina Witt, not popping double axels or asks her why she prefers tan skates.

Does Evan prefer competition to show skating?  Can he do the quad without getting injured?  Who designed his Tango de Roxanne costume?  Will we ever see him wear an actual color?  Does he miss his Dancing With The Stars spray tan?

Questions will be able to be submitted starting a noon, Pacific Standard Time.

Check out Universal Sports' Skype interview with Adam Rippon.

We need to be on the lookout for which networks will be covering Four Continents, as neither Universal Sports nor Ice Network will be broadcasting the competition in the US.  Time for some good ol' fashioned Justin.TV streaming!

Gymnastike will be having a LIVE broadcast of the Chicago Style meet this weekend, featuring UCLA, Stanford and Oregon State.  Hopefully they won't focus too much on teams that don't actually matter...as Anne definitely spends an awful lot of time interviewing gymnasts who struggle to get their Yurchenko Fulls around.  Anyone who asks Anne how the hell she is funded also gets bonus points.  Anyone who hands her a book on interviewing will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Sam Peszek is set to make her NCAA debut exhibitioning on bars at the meet.  While Sam has never been a real swinger, her name should help her receive a decent score on the event.  If she loses weight like Maloney, we will even pretend that Miss Val made her watchable  and that we always loved watching her clunky gymnastics.

  1. CCTV always covers Four Continents. I hope we can find a good stream like last year.

  3. Roz needs to go away. I was so over her 25 years ago. She is gross and needs therapy.

  4. This picture isn't very family friendly. I had trouble reading the article because of the picture. You should assemble all the pictures like this in one place so I can, um, avoid them. Yeah.

  5. LOL, the whole blog isn't 'family friendly'. If that's what you're after, I suggest you read somewhere else.

  6. RE: family friendly

I'm tired of the entire world being rearranged for the 8 year olds. Society does not, and should NOT, necessarily function at a level always appropriate for grade school consumption- it's a much tougher world than that. As my mother said: 'Life is not padded- sharpen your elbows and use them.'

When I was a kid, it was the kids who needed to adapt to the world, NOT the other way around.
If there was an inappropriate situation, it was my PARENTS' JOB to get me out of there, NOT the world's problem to change circumstances for me.

If you get busy providing enriching activities/good nutrition/optimal social structure for your kid, they won't have time to read this blog, MOM. It's your job, NOT ours- so get back to work!

I've also found that the moms & dads who are SO concerned and sanctimonious ultimately have the most 'wild child' children later on when M&D are out of the picture*. Lighten up already!

(*When a substitute mail carrier in college: always found that the elderly people (who stood by the mailbox to time how late I was (it's a damned tough job as a sub), waiting for their Jesus/Mary/Joseph mail, were ALWAYS unaware that the adult son in their basement got his snuff/porn mail at his own P.O. box back at the post office. We couldn't tell them that (sanctity of privacy of mail is truly taken seriously) but all at the USPS knew FAR more about that family (and everyone else) than those families knew about themselves).

  7. I wonder what Evan was thinking when he did this. The picture shows clearly his pubic hair and it's gross, especially coming from somebody who likes to pretend to be a class act! Bleach please!

  8. Since I'm babysitting today for a snuffly middle schooler (auntie duty): 'Corrupting' person that I am (ha!), I ran the pic by my niece today (only commenting that it was that figure skater from the Olympics).
She looked at this picture, and commented on the mask and tattoo, and didn't mention the pubic hair.
If YOU look for pubic hair, YOU'LL find pubic hair. Prurient thoughts start in YOUR own head- if you stop seeding them in your kids' heads, they won't have them, either.

  9. You Puritans really fucking get my blood pressure up... just like these stupid-ass people that, due to their life-threatening allergies to nuts, request no peanuts be opened on an airplane THAT HAS 500 PEOPLE ON IT. I take peanuts on the plane just to make a mockery of those people. If you have an allergy, wear a mask. Don't inconvenience everyone on the goddamn plane. It's not MY PROBLEM that you have an allergy, just like it's not MY PROBLEM that you want to read a figure skating blog that doesn't have half-naked men in it.

If YOU'RE the nincompoop with the purity issues, then fuck off and go somewhere else. For CHRIST'S SAKE! I'M BEGGING YOU!

  10. I was joking, in light of the whole Weir not "family friendly" enough stuff.

Take a joke, it's okay. Please post more racy pictures.

  11. Was I the only one who understood that Skate Mom was joking?

Anyway, that Evan picture: WTF? It isn't sexy; it looks like the cover of a bad made-for-late-night-HBO film, and he looks like a Ken doll.

  12. There are these things called "jokes", which are sometimes augmented by this thing called "sarcasm."

    Well done, Skate Mom.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Definitely Skate Mom was joking. Anyone who didn't see that and wrote a big long ranting response is a little soft in the head.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Oh, my god, though, we have got to give thanks to the humorless ranter. Of course Skate Mom is joking but come on---being called out by a stealth-spy postal worker is some kind of good shit.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I totally agree that children have way to much power and things are not better off because of it..the context of the rant may be off but the content is amazing.

  16. the only thing worng with the evan pic is that there isn't enough butter, bacon, and mayo in it...

  17. Postal workers look at our pr0nz? I only got as far as the Mommy Guilt Tripper before I went back to Ab Cam. Sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  18. AbCam's alright... definitely better than Santa Cruz. Their antibodies are total shite. Just sayin.

  19. Shave first, honey.

Evan's a hot skater. Too bad he's still in the closet.

  20. chicken Liesycek bolted after the first quad question! And he lied in his answer. He can't stop being a liar. EVERYONE SAW HIM TRY A QUAD AT NATIONALS and fall!I don't get his lying at all. He tried a quad and fell and was too chicken and cowardly to do it again! He is so stupid to think everyone forgets his quad attempt at nationals. Acting like he didn't try one all season! EVERYONE SAW HIM TRY IT!!! He just makes me ill totally!

    ReplyDelete
  21. its not that he was cowardly. he was smart. It would have been STUPID to try the quad. Weir didn't try a quad and nobody is calling him a coward. The jealously from grown people on this board is embarrassing. We just wish we could look like that after "taking off training" for a year.

    ReplyDelete
  22. If Weir had also won without doing a quad I would call him chicken and coward but he placed sixth so who really cares. It is THE problem with the 2010 Olympics that it was stupid to do a quad. Didn't help Plushenko and really hurt Takahashi. But they both did them because they believed they should be done and can do them. Lysacek doesn't believe they should be done or can do them so he sucks. Makes skating regress to triples era in men. Liesasucks is so awful.

  23. Best Michelle Kwan Moment

    Things to focus on...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EA4j4Eezv14

    1)The word "humongous"
2)The word "inter-pret-teration" or whatever she says
3)Spit flys out of her mouth when she says..."fly"
    4)Overall punctuation in her sentences
5)Later on if you are lucky enough you can find the video where she pokes Bob Costas. You don't poke Bob Costas. Odd that NBC hasn't invited her back.

  24. What's with Evan's lightning bolt tattoo?

    ReplyDelete
  25. I just dont understand the picture. So he is wearing a towel, but what is the thing on his shoulders? A robe? A jacket? Why does he have the mask? Did he just get out of the shower and then pick up a lace mask? What?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Anon @ 5:31:

Evan said many times that the quad is and would be important. Why do you think he made such a point of going for it even when the chances of landing it were not that high? He though he would need it one day to win. Things didn't work out that way. But that's not his fault that he and his coach were smart enough to realize they had to play it cool and clean.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Only it turned out to be not so cool (boring programs to overused music with a frantic choreo that is only enjoyable to Evan's compatriots), and not so clean either (Evan's salchow technique on triple axel).

So it basically came down to choosing between that, or Plushy's embarrassing act (because 'Takahashi fell'). They held Evan up in the short, and voila! you've got your new Olympic Champion. Smart indeed.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I say more pubic hair pls...oh, who am I kidding? He should just lose the towel altogether.
I wish all male athletes were like that cool English rugby player who actually did a nude spread with an erection to boot.
