This and That

Sam Peszek fractured her foot in practice Sunday.  Miss Val says it is a blessing in disguise to heal her ankle.  For Peszek, this is yet another body part to give out on her.  UCLA is hoping to have Peszek back mid-season.

Down in the swamp, the Gators look strong heading into the season.  Alaina Johnson went 9.9 on all four events during the latest intrasquad after having time off in order to heal a bruised rib.  Kytra Hunter is not in Gainesville with the team.

With all of the injuries, it looks like Florida and Alabama are likely to start off the season the strongest.  Several teams are loaded with freshmen, which will likely mean a lot of strong routines and a lot of mistakes early on.

Geralen Stack-Eaton will miss the first few meets for Alabama due to a strained quad sustained in practice last week.

Tara Lipinski and Evan Lysacek skated together at the Toyota Sports Center today and tweeted about it. They appear to be BFF, which is fitting considered how many skating aficionados feel about both of their Olympic wins.

Johnny Weir is the guest judge on Bravo's The Fashion Show tomorrow night.

  1. Good for Ryan Bradley. Worlds was very rough for him with that broken foot, and I'm glad he didn't have to go out on that note. Wherever he finishes, it will be a treat to see him skate and Nationals and he should be a contender for the World team.

  2. I'm fascinated by Tara's return to the ice. It's like she hibernated for a decade and then remembered she knows how to skate. I guess her hip problems must be all done by now.

  3. So does Kytra's absence mean that she is definitely out? If so, tough break for UF. This would make two years in a row that they lose a top gymnast before the season starts. Luckily for them, their recruiting has been amazing lately, and Maranda Smith's 6th year is definitely a boost as well.

  4. Amazing that Val was able to break Sam. Amazing.

  5. Why the catty comments about Lysacek's and Lipinksi's respective Olympic wins?
Evan and Tara both won their Olympic golds fair and square-it was the judges decision. Get over it and move on.

  6. What jumps can tara do these days?

  7. So sad for Sam!!! Speedy recovery to her... hope that she can come back for post season

  8. So is Tara Evan's new beard?

  9. Why the catty comments? Because of Tara's scream. Because of Evan's arm-flailing and those snakes on his costume. Because neither one is the best skater of his/her generation, despite their Olympic success.

  10. I just have a feeling the judges regret their decision in giving Tara the win. I thought maybe Tara deserved the win but I decided to watch a couple of years after the win and I don't get it. Nice skate and exciting for her but Michelle was the complete package. Heck Lu Chen was a more complete skater.

I guess Michelle will need to get a new friend to replace Evan.

  11. Maybe Sam wouldn't have fractured her foot if she had actually lost some goddamn weight.

  12. I want to be catty about Evan's win, but when I think it came down to him and Plushenko, I just can't get worked up about it.

Damn, I wish Daisuke had won.

  13. Anon at 6.52 - I would say that actually maybe Sam wouldn't have fractured her foot if Val hadn't pushed her, and a lot of others, into doing DLOs. Sam's was low enough as an elite, when she would have been fitter and lighter than now.

  14. Lipinski's win was about judges saying "GO JUMPS!! Lysaceks win was like judges saying "Enough with jumps!"

  15. To Anon 8:14 AM

At least with Plushenko it would've been out of sight out of mind as he lives in Russia.
