  1. Go Bruins!

Trying to improve my gymnastics knowledge: were the first 7 all Yurchenko 1.5s? What was Brittani's, a DTY? How about Tauny's?

Looking forward to what will hopefully be another fantastic season even without Zam :(

  2. They were all Yurchenko Fulls except for Brittani who did a Yurchenko 1 1/2 and Tauny who did a yurchenko half on, front pike off (omeilianchik)

  3. The first ones were all full-twisting Yurchenkos or FTYs. Brittani's was a Yurchenko 1.5, the added 1/2 twist puts her landing facing away from the table.

Tauny did a Yurchenko 1/2 on (meaning she does a 1/2 twist out of the round-off to land on the table facing forwards) and then a piked forward somersault out of it. I don't know if it's named after anyone - with an added 1/2 twist in the somi it'd be a Podkopayeva.

  4. Oops, OlympicEffect was posting at the same time! It's called an Omeilianchik!

  5. Are we sure Sawa didn't take a wrong turn on the way to Bama?

  6. Definitely missing seeing Zam out there - sigh! 0.1 bonus to Tauny for not doing a yurchenko full. Olivia Courtney's vault looked nice.

  7. UCLA bruin- easiest way to know vaults is that if its a full or a double yurchenko the gymnast will face the vault. If they are doing a 1.5 or a 2.5 (happens in elite never in NCAA) they will have their back to the vault.

I'd give Tauny points for not doing the most overdone vault in competition. Not having Zam to anchor vault this year is going be a bummer.

  8. Bars video is up now, Gerber does indeed look strong. Peszek has gained an unfortunate paunch.

  9. Thanks everyone! That will make it a lot easier for me to understand which vaults are which. It's so hard to tell when they move so quickly!
