This and That

Vanessa Zamarripa tore her achilles and will miss this season.  She will have two years of eligibility remaining.  UCLA certainly has more than enough depth to absorb this injury, but it is a huge blow.  UCLA has now lost their top two bar workers (Zam and Li) without having someone spectacular to replace those 9.900s. They also lost her 9.9-10 on Vault and a strong beam routine. This season just got 10 times more interesting.  Best wishes to Zam for a complete recovery.

(Tidbit: Zam's floor choreography was never completed this year.)

While her teammates are surely sorry to see her in pain and bummed about losing the star of their team, one needs to realize that this is an opportunity for many girls to compete who otherwise wouldn't have.  There will be a great deal of lineup shuffling in order to find the right chemistry.  This is certainly a chance for Elyse Hopfner Hibbs to set herself apart.  Sam Peszek has tweeted about being unhappy with some of her intrasquad efforts, but she'll need to turn on the Olympian inside her.

Evan Lysacek was on the Today Show (8:55) showing a dress he designing for charity.  Listen, Evan is NOT gay.  There are plenty of straight non-Jewish American designers.  I just can't think of any.  Evan announced that he would like to produce his own fashion line: 27 black cocktail dresses.

Evan Lysacek skating at the KTLA tree lighting after NOT liking the ice conditions.  He performed Tango de Roxanne.  Let's practice for Shawn Johnson's comeback and pretend that he improved leaps and bounds as a performer on DWTS:

The USFSA Fantasy Skating event page is up for the Grand Prix Final.  The general rule this season is: If I pick them, they will withdraw!

Christopher Dean has let us all know why Jayne has outlasted both of his wives.

Melissa Bulanhagui is preparing for Nationals.  Mel B has an enchanting personality on and off the ice.  In addition to being a strong jumper and lover of Britney Spears, she is also one of Taylor Toth's very best gal pals.

Sierra Sapunar has made the Olympics of the Circus in Cirque du Soleil's Viva Elvis.  Interesting to note that Ashley Kupets left La Reve and is on a temporary contract for Viva Elvis.

Sasha Cohen at Improv Ice.  Kristi Yamaguchi is right.  Sasha really does need to work on her flexibility!

  1. Patrick Robinson is straight,non- Jewish, and a successful fashion designer, he brought The Gap back from its death by Kakhi abyss of the early '00s into the more hip and stylish design for the masses branding in recent years.

There are many straight, male fashion designers. Not all designers are known entities, a majority of fashion designers toil away anonymously as assistant designers or pattern/ technical specialists. I should know, I studied fashion design at Pratt and briefly worked in the industry.

  3. What's with Evan stopping twice in his program to just skate around the ice?

  4. I just wonder what Evan's going to do in the future. I mean he's going to want to be with someone. He has the time now so it's gotta come out.

  5. Nastia doesn't think he's gay. Maybe he's just bi... metrosexual.

  6. Do you seriously appreciate skating, or just here to snipe at Evan for reasons I can't understand. Having nothing to do with skating. This was the rehearsal, and there is another partial phone video of the actual. The performance at Lake Placid spectacular.

  7. Evan looked to be in pain after some of his spins. Tango de Roxanne is a fab of mine, but a see dramatic for a Christmas show no?

  8. is this the same Sasha as last year? she skated with speed, confidence and joy. that double axel in California Gurls was huge compared to the Zhang-esque ones she pulled out last year. nice to see her back. it's a crying shame that she had such a bad year last year when it really mattered.

  9. Hope Zam has a speedy recovery. At least the injury occurred early enough for her to redshirt. It will be interesting to see UCLA's lineups this year Li or Zam. Wong will be back on bars, and Peszek should be good for the AA, but losing Zam definitely hurts. Thats pretty much 8 guaranteed 9.85-9.95 scores that they are losing from last year.

  11. Why are ppl fucking care whether Evan is fake, will come out eventually, or if he's gay at all? It's his decision because it's his life to live. He doesn't owe the public anything. Who the fuck cares? Personally I hate his skating but I'm not a big fan of his so-called rival Johnny Weir either.

I've lived in Germany and most recently in Japan. Generally speaking people and the media in these countries are not so interested in or vehement about speculating on public figures' sexuality. It's called respecting privacy, being non-judgmetal, and not caring about whether sexuality defines a person. We should practice it here in the States as well.

  12. Mister, it's really not a big deal to me, and it shouldn't be a big deal to you, what Evan's sexuality is. We don't need people saying "I told you so!" if he comes out 10 yrs from now. Maybe he is BI. Let him be.

  13. Peggy Fleming always says that skating is a revealing sport. Well, Evan's skating makes him come across like a complete douche. His interviews don't help. I don't find his skating appealing. He is certainly more suited to competitions than to ice shows. I imagine he will grow tired of touring eventually.

  14. Anonymous at 10:22, you took the words right out of my mouth. Evan is not defined by his sexuality... Nobody should be defined by their sexuality. It's his own personal business. If he wants to be straight, let him be straight. I personally am straight, but if I wanted to get involved in a gay relationship, that would be none of your business. Stop labeling people. We are all individuals with our own feelings.

  15. Kathie Lee and the other woman are SO ANNOYING and RUDE constantly talking over Evan as he's trying to speak. I'm actually impressed by Evan's speaking ability. I wouldn't be that good.

  16. I actually do like some of the choreo in that Evan performance. And I like the headless scratch spin. He's not all bad.

  17. I have no idea whether or not Evan is Gay or Str8. I really don't care.

He's still very fake and phony in his voice and body language. That's what makes it difficult for me to watch him skate or perform. I don't know what he is hiding or shielding, but I sure wouldn't buy a used car from anyone with that level of phony. I'm amazed it doesn't bother other people- It makes me very uncomfortable.
