Quote of the Day

"No one's ever been successful in a gymnastics comeback, ever in history," Johnson said.  "I kind of have the odds against me, but ever since that moment, I've been me again. I'm happier, I'm healthier, I'm loving every day."

One can try to like Shawn, but the girl makes it tough.  Apparently she didn't pay attention to Worlds this year or the comeback of Alicia Sacramone.  It is all about Shawn...

  1. HAHA wow. Although judging by her tweets, she had NO IDEA Worlds was even going on this year. She may not have gotten wind of Alicia Sacramone's successful comeback. You are right it's all about Shawn. Maybe it will help her to be oblivious like that because she can keep more focused.

  2. There have been plenty of other successful comebacks.

  3. If it's true Shawn said that then it's disappointing. She should do some research-as recently a Worlds 2010 there was a successful comeback. Alicia's.

  4. I'm not so sure of the credibility of the source. The article also said, "Next came Nastia Liukin, another world-class gymnast from Russia." and "...so many that they had to deny some questions do to time constraints." (note the DO instead of DUE)

I think if you have factual mistakes as well as grammatical errors, you may have misquoted the girl. Im not even a huge Shawn fan, but she probably was thinking, nobody has come back to top form and win Olympic gold trying a comeback in history.

  5. She was giving a speech to a bunch of students, not doing an interview with a sport journalist. Different audience, different discourse. She has the right to put herself in a good light. I wouldn't blame her for doing it. The girl is smart.

  6. was sac really out of it? I mean really. To have competed this year she had to be training ,last year. I really never thought her comeback was that far fetched. I mean is what sac is doing honestly harder then what Hong is doing? Now for Dominique dawes coming back after four years off, that is impressive.

People kept talking about Nastias comeback in 2009. Comeback from what? She was off for four months during which time she was touring and training.

Anyway if Shawns comeback is even more successful then Dominique M's I will be impressed. People love Domininque for hers and she did what a full twisting yurchenko? That would be competitive at level ten states.

  7. She seems to forget Chuso. Ugh, and I was starting to like Shawn.

  8. Other lies Shawn said in the article: - she was in 8th place before Floor; - she started bawling right after her floor routine ended. This smacks of Chow's grandiose claims that Shawn was the first gymnast to do a double-double on floor or a double twisting LO on bars...do they know about YouTube?

Shawn has never struck me as a gymnast who really knows anything about gymnastics history.

  9. I was at the talk and she said no one has been successful in a gymnastics comeback LIKE MINE ever in history. Which I mean, is kind of true isn't it? Who has successfully comeback after taking two years off going through puberty and getting knee reconstruction surgery? Also she was crying after floor and in interviews after it. She hid it decently but tears were a flowin. Don't trust everything you read. The girl is more than aware about Alicia's comeback and has talked about other gymnastics comebacks in other interviews. Like Dawes'.

  10. Shawn also never said she was in eighth place, the article did.

  11. Aside from those that have been named, what about Mohini?

  12. true. i really hope she didn't mean it. but i heard/read through the grapevine/internet-weed that she didnt get along that well with the 08 team. anyone think this is a bite at that? "you were a bitch to me so i'm gonna tell you/the world that your world medal means sh*t compared to the olypic medal i'm gonna get. who's top b*tch now!?!? good thing she has that cute mouse face so no one would ever think she's thinking such horrid things!

  13. Didn't Zmeskal have the same injury in 95/96? (oh and she was making comeback after puberty and hasn’t Shawn said she’s her idol?),

Aside from that, there are countless gymnast who have made “comebacks” after surgery and puberty …the have seem to be a dime a dozen in the 90’s.

Even the most famous comeback kid: Kupets had two torn achilles and multiple surgeries.

  14. Agreed, Anon ^ at 1:05

Y'all weren't there. Reporters often make fact errors. Until the entire story is reported on multiple sites with credible sources, I am making no judgments on SJ.Or is it now "Guilty til proven innocent?"

  15. For heaven's sake people, GROW UP. You're making her out be the devil incarnate over an innocent remark that I'm guessing is being taken out of context. I realize she might be different in real life, but let's give her the benefit of the doubt. As far as a "successful comeback," goes to her, that may mean one thing: winning the Olympic AA gold two years after being out, having surgery, etc. That is extremely difficult, and I don't know if anyone has accomplished it on their second Olympic go-round. To another person, "successful comeback" might mean just MAKING a second Olympic team. Get a grip, folks.

  16. Success means different things to different people. Kupets had an amazing comeback and won two medals, but no gold, so some (not me) would view that as a "failure." Zmeskal attempted a comeback, but did not make it back to the level she had been before, let alone a world or Olympic team. Some would view her attempt as a success, while others would say she failed because she didn't go all the way. It's all in the eye of the beholder.

  17. I love how ppl react, Shawn never struggled in her career- a rare thing. She was built up, but had many flaws, but the media and her peeps overlooked it all. when she met her challenge (Liukin at 100ish% she failed) this wasn't a shock. Ppl say Liukin was a slut to bars- but Shawn was the nasty scheap whore to vault..nill these events they were pretty much equal with Liukin edge (form --yes form-- and artistry)

Shawn never gave anything up, she was good BUT wasn't AA good- really look at her form on all event ...pause the youtube videos and you'lll see....

  18. A chunker not a performer!

  19. How in the hell are they equal when you take out vault and bars? Shawn was better on both floor and beam in 2008. And how does this "quote" have anything to do with Nastia? SMH

  20. Guilty? Innocent? Really, we are talking about a kid that perhaps (!) made a silly comment. What's the big deal? I just don't get it. There are real things going on in the real world. Enjoy gymnastics, and that's that. Stop being silly yourself. It's annoying.

  22. A true sign of Shawn's lack of maturity is how she responded to criticism about this on Twitter. Even better was Alicia's response to her, as if Alicia even cares what Shawn says at all.

How come is it a sign of Shawn's lack of maturity when she corrected someone who wanted to create silly drama between her and Alica? Since you read Alica's respond in such a negative way, the one who truly lacks maturity is YOU.

  24. Liukin did not have better form then Johnson. That is a joke.

Alicia did not have a comeback. She was in the gym off and on the whole time working out. She is a power gymnast that didn't upgrade at all. She rested on her old gym and got lucky that worlds was so weak.

  25. dumb, but I'd love to slip between those gorgeous legs

  26. Shawn Johnson has every right to stop doing gymnastics because if she hurts doing it then it's time to move on. She doesn't have to forget about it she just doesn't have todo it! I think she is a stronger person I think because I read her book and I can tell she feels good not doing gymnastics anymore she may miss it but she is a stronger person! I love you Shawn!
