On The Inside: Figure Skating

Skating was on TV so often back in 99-00, that I managed to misplace my tape of this documentary.  Unfortunately, it was never posted in its entirety online.  Yagudin fans uploaded part of it without the Nicks and Naomi Nari Nam segments.  I love me some John Nicks and this documentary doesn't disappoint!

  1. I've never seen this documentary. Thanks for posting. I'd forgotten how amazingly talented NNN really was. Wow, what potential...

  3. Thanks for featuring this docu. Was that Jamie and Justin in the 4th vid? By the way, still waiting on that Silverstein/Pekarek post! :)

  4. In that second vid, with that 3-turn, it was most definitely a flip, not a lutz, that she was doing.
Unless that was a lip, cause I've never seen a Lutz entrance like that except before footwork.

  5. It was definitely a flip. NNN never really did lutzes in competition... And when she did, she fell. Wonderful spinner, but a lot worse jumping technique than Czisny.

  6. Oops, nevermind, I thought you were talking about the video off NNN's flip. But yeah, it was still a flip in the video you speak of.

  7. They also said an axle takes off from an inside edge... Somebody needs to do some fact checking.

  8. Brandi Sandoval (the girl learning the
triple loop with the help of the pole)
went on to skate pairs. Here's a recent
clip of her skating with current partner
    Nate Hess:

  10. And in case you're wondering who else in on the podium with Naomi from that 1999 Junior Grand Prix competition in Canada, it's Irina Nikolaeva of Russia with the gold, and Stacey Pengsen of the US with the bronze.

  12. It is interesting to see the list of people Naomi Nari Nam was competing against in the fall of 1999.

I know he was a world bronze medalist in 99 and 00, but there is something that makes me chuckle when I hear Michael Weiss referred to as a main rival of Yagudin.
