All That Skate LA Press Conference

Yu-Na Kim and Michelle Kwan held a joint press conference and skating demonstration at Pickwick Arena for All That Skate LA. Queen Yu-Na and the Kween discussed the upcoming show. As usual, the Korean media was out en masse, which also indicates that they will be all over Kim training in LA. As of now, Kim is saying she is in LA for the show and may stay longer for training. Given the connections Team Kim and Team Kwan have jointly, they could start their own joint figure skating empire.

A representative from AT Sports told the LA Times that Yu-Na is used to the press and that their presence was nothing special as "In Korea, she is much more than a movie star." The executive making the somewhat arrogant-sounding statement was not our favorite Helen Choi. This time, executive Koo Dong Hoi spoke to the press.

The press conference provided another opportunity for Michelle to open her mouth and talk about everything, with the press in the palm of her hand and loving every second of it.

Michelle told Icenetwork how Karen choreographed her show numbers. She indicated Karen's tremendous amount of talent as a choreographer, which is the biggest bunch of bullshit from the Kwan Camp since Danny claimed that Karen used to beat Michelle all the time in competition. This was also around the time that Peggy Fleming used to laud Karen for being a ''great jumper'' when she was doing a triple toe and triple salchow during the jump crazed mid '90s.

Karen has been choreographing, but unfortunately, she has passed on her excessive arm movements to her students. She should leave the choreography to her "allegedly" flamboyant husband.

  4. Karen should be thankful that we remember her skating vividly enough to pick on it. It isn't like she is famous for anything she did herself.

  5. Is Karen's husband bisexual?

  6. I never thought that karens husband was bisexual, he is just homosexual.

Karen Kwan is the most overrated skater of all time. she was gross. Yea she was talented enough to do a internship with Vera Wang. Nice that Vera aka media whore will do anything to keep her self in the game. Michelle is the most overexposed skater. She is a two time loser. Yea she won worlds, but she will IMHO always be remembered as the skater who choked twice.

  7. Is Peter Oppegard obsessed with Michelle?

  8. If he is gay, then he is probably very obsessed with Michelle.

  9. Um, excuse me person who called Michelle a "loser". The only loser here is You! You don't have to be a fan of hers (I'm not either), but Michelle was a phenomenally talented skater who achieved more success than most of the US skaters will ever accomplish combined.

  10. If Peter's gay, who got Karen pregnant twice?

Karen Kwan did choreograph "Winter Song", one of the exhibition programs Michelle did last year and will perform in L.A. It is a wonderful seamless, emotional program with no excessive arm movements, but difficult choreography. She also choreo'd Michelle's second number which is very nice, but not among my faves.

AJ, I'm not loving some of your newer fans. Just sayin...

  11. I have zero problems with Karen Kwan doing choreography, but there are too many arm movements in that program!

  12. Both ladies look absolutely beautiful. Yu-Na has such a regal way about her. She's almost not of this world, it seems. It's fantastic to see Michelle Kwan again. She was always one of my favorites.

  13. Karen kwan choreographer...... spare me. She might have put together a shell of the program but I am sure that someone else fine tuned it {of course we will probably never find out who because the rights were likely signed away}.

Who is coaching Michelle these days? Her father? Maybe he can coach {and ruin } Yu-na j/k

  14. huh?? What do you mean "arrogant"? Isn't that kind of stuff what managers supposed to say? That is called "promotion" and obviously you are not familiar with that term. If Yuna was the one who said it then it would be weird, but that statement came from her management and they are supposed to say things like that. Gees. Where are you from?

AJ, you gotta stop being so fcuking negative about anything related to Yuna's team only because her team dumped that guy. Get over it.

  15. been out of the loop since '06
    when did karen get maried

who sings that version of hallelujah?

  16. I believe that version of Hallelujah is sung by Alexandra Burke (an X Factor winner).

  17. Just my two bits, but I find both Michelle Kwan and Yu-Na Kim to be rather overrated and insufferable. That's not to say that they aren't super talented skaters, but to me they're bland in their perfection. There's something dry about their respecitve presentations. I especially see it when people are just drooling over Yu-Na's so-called coquettishness on the ice. It looks so forced and insincere to me, but perhaps I'm the only one sees that the emperor has no clothes. Both were driven by their parents to reach the top of the sport, which they did through sheer hard work, but neither is a natural artistic talent.

  18. I had the misfortune of meeting Karen Kwan once at the Champions on Ice tour. She was sitting one row ahead of me with some guy (not Peter Oppegard, this was years ago, around 1997). Being a skating starstruck teenager, I decided to talk to her during the intermission. I congratulated her on her success as a skater and then I said that she must be proud of her sister as well. She gave me this look as if I had asked her to eat dog poo and she said in a condescending voice, "Okaaay..." I really had to control my inner bitch, but I decided to say nothing though trust me, I was thinking of a millions ways to make her cry.

From what I remember, she got knocked up before having a shotgun wedding. I'm sure Danny Kwan was real proud. What better way to say F-U to daddy, no?

  19. Michelle wanted to skate. I don't know about Yu na but I'm sure she grew to love it. I remember Yu na saying she never got how people cry after a performance which was funny since Michelle does it and that's her fav skater. I feel Michelle..during her competitive days. All her feelings come out through her skating. These days I don't think she puts as much into it. Anyhoo I never got that feeling with Yu na although lovely on the ice. When she mention that she didn't get why people cried after a performance until the Olympics then I got why I always never felt that connection. It's some hateful people on here today although Aunt Joyce is a big Michelle/Yu na fan.

  20. in actuality if Karen Kwan did not have a sister who happened to be Michelle Kwan, she would not have even made the top 20 at nationals. I thought it was so funny that the judges would consider that piece of crap worthy of such a high placement.

  21. Michelle's nose appears to have gotten larger and wider since I last saw her. Now I know she is not Pinochio, so I was wondering, did she fall on the ice and break her nose or something? I dont remember it being that large before.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Nope, it's the same. I think she looks great, especially for her age!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Have there ever been pictures of Michelle looking out of shape? Seriously????? She always looks in great competitive shape to me.

    ReplyDelete
  24. "Especially for her age?"

Michelle is 30! That's hardly old.

  25. WTF? what's with the influx of trolls today?

the hate is sooo over the top.

neither is a natural artistic talent? you'd be in the minority to say that about michelle. throughout her career the greatest factor she has been praised for is her artistry and passion. you don't learn that. she had the it factor. other skaters were stronger technically and didn't have it

didn't realize karen had so many haters....it's a little disturbing to me.

    ReplyDelete
  26. So far no single ladies skater has touch Michelle artistry when she was competitive on a consistent basis yet. They are just haters. If they hate Michelle they are going to hate Karen. I think from the tone of the blog these people think AJ isn't a Michelle fan but they would be wrong.

  27. Michelle' body kicks ass in those pics. where does she find the time to work out so much? Anybody she is so owning those shots in comparison to yu-na who is still a skinny pre-teen.

  28. Wow....Its pretty evident that jealousy of anyone involved in the Kwan Camp is the main reason for all these negative posts. It's all really tacky....
